Congratulations
to Carolyn Woodward and
Clarkrange High School
for winning JEA's Cornerstone Award,
an award that goes to the school that best supports the
First Amendment. Along with a plaque,
there is also a $2,500 prize that goes to the
school's journalism department.
Clarkrange will receive its award at the spring
JEA convention in Denver. There is no reason why
other schools in Tennessee can't win this award.
Start thinking now about what you might do at
your school to show support for the First Amendment.
A good time to have some school-wide activities
is during the week of Sept. 19, since that day is
Constitution Day and all public schools
who receive federal aid must do something
to acknowledge the day. Another good time would be
in February during Scholastic Journalism Week.
